Most lost domains are lost in one of two ways: a missed renewal, or a scam. Both are easy to prevent.
Never miss a renewal
- Turn on auto-renew and keep a valid card on file.
- Keep the email address on your registrar account current, because renewal reminders go there.
- For important names, renew several years ahead.
Lock the front door
- Use a strong, unique password and two-step login for your registrar account and the email account behind it.
- Keep the transfer lock on unless you are moving the domain.
- Never share your registrar password. A transfer only needs an authorisation code, through the proper process.
Spot the scams
- Fake "renewal invoices" from companies you have never used.
- "Buyers" who need you to pay for an appraisal first.
- Payment details sent by chat or from a new email address. On Last Founder, payment details only appear on your private deal page.
